Berragoon Stud Sale Countdown!

We are so excited to be heading off to Holbrook in a week with our three young horses for the Berragoon Stud Production Sale. Pre-works kick off at 4pm on Friday 8 Jan and the big event starts at 10:30am on Sunday 10 Jan.

It’s going to be a big weekend for us with three horses on offer:

Lot 12 is Pinehill Ellen, now going really nicely under saddle as a green three year old,

Lot 18 is Pinehill McIntyre, now a strapping two year old, and

Lot 30 is Pinehill Cool Constable, the seriously coolest and most chilled out four year old on the planet!

In the photo, they are lined up in lot order from left to right – always helpful, this crew!

If you are keen to watch the auction head to the Elite Livestock Auctions page and register to watch live. You can also bid online if you can’t get to Holbrook to watch in person.

It’s going to be a cracking weekend with a full day of polocrosse and campdrafting on the Saturday for the inaugural Berragoon Sale Incentives polocrosse and campdrafting competition.

Please support us and watch on the day! We’re so hopeful our horses do well in such a strong crowd of quality horses.

We’ll let you know how we go!

Breeding Season is Upon Us!

Well, spring has well and truly sprung at Pine Hill. We’ve had glorious rain with some really balmy days and now our paddocks are flushed green (with the ever-present spring Cape Weed!). Pipersrun Captain Thunderbolt (Jack) is getting some bookings coming in for his first season at stud and he’s performing like a champion – even managing to do his first collection on the dummy!

We’re starting to get back out to the odd training day and rally but things are still slow to kick off. It’s frustrating but so necessary. I just wish we could head over to NSW to go to a few comps! I’d better move quick, too, because our daughter is keen to take Jack on some pony rides!

Hope all is well with you and get in touch if you want to talk about using Jack for your mare.

Spring is around the corner!

It’s the depths of winter here at Pine Hill and all the animals are fluffy and muddy. This is our first winter we haven’t needed to feed hay to all the horses every day and we’re pretty proud of that achievement. It’s certainly been a wet winter, but our soil conditioning, weed management and spelling programs are also starting to pay off. If you’re keen to know more about our approach to land and horse management, check out the Sustainable Horse Blog for more info.

We are starting to prepare for a busy first breeding season for our wonderful young Australian Stock Horses stallion, Pipersrun Captain Thunderbolt (aka Jack), and you can check him out now in the Horse Deals August Stallion Special Edition. Jack will be offering limited live cover (depending on competition schedule) and full chilled and frozen semen options. Please get in touch if you’re interested in him.

The babies from last season are now both weaned and like big fluffy teddy bears. Both boys are pending ASHS registration and we’re so impressed with Oliver (Pinehill McIntyre HSH) that we’ve kept him entire for the next year or two to see if he’ll grow into the sire-quality colt he is promising to be. We only have one foal due this year due to last season’s drought and fires, so stay tuned for a September/October baby out of Kilburns Madonna (TB) by our own Jack.

The rehabilitation of our creek has been a time-consuming project over the winter months and is now finished. I’ll be writing a blog post on that so if you’re keen to see what we got up to, head over to the Sustainable Horse Blog. We only have a couple more big infrastructure projects to complete – the surface of the arena and the creation of two more paddocks – and we’re pretty happy with how the farm is looking.

Thanks for reading and hopefully we’ll be posting more on our adventures as we get to some competitions and training days over the next few months (COVID-pending of course).

Cheers,

Nadia
